| WELCOME |
DeepSea.com gets a new
look!

We wanted to
convey the sleek image of our new LED product
lines, high pressure test facilities, and
ceramic flotation through a more user-friendly
website. That required a substantial
makeover, and our IT/webmaster, Marvin DeGuzman,
took on the challenge of wading through all the
constructive comments. Take a peek at the
new features, including the "Tech Library," with
back issues of the DeepSea Scrolls and reprints
of DSPL authored magazine articles, the
"Support" menu where you can download manuals
for every product we make, and "Services" where
you can see details of our pressure testing and
optical measurement systems. We hope you'll like
the new, cleaner, and more streamlined look to
the site. (Nice job, Marvin!)

computer
geek.

MBARI ROV runs with LED
Lights
|
Knute
Brekke, Sr. ROV Pilot/ROV Ventana, Monterey Bay
Aquarium Research Institute, wrote us to say, "We
made several dives with the LED Multi-SeaLites®,
but the most useful lighting from the LED's came
when we used them to illuminate the stabs of our
cable laying tool sled. We deployed 3.6
kilometers of cable from ROV Ventana, dropped the
cable spool, pulled the connectors out of the
spool itself, re-acquired the now empty spool and
recovered Ventana leaving the cable on the bottom
to be connected to an instrument the next
day. This distance (3.6 km) of laying cable
from an ROV is a record distance here at MBARI and
possibly the single longest distance of cable ever
laid by an ROV." LEDs lend themselves
to work-class ROVs, where power concerns are still
a constraint, despite an umbilical to the
surface. The extremely long life of the
solid state LEDs means no worry about a filament
burning out in the middle of a cable laying
operation.

SeaBattery™
|
"Binh Pham, the meticulous SeaBattery assembler,
is shown with one
of his favorite products."
It's a new look
for an old favorite. The pressure
compensated SeaBattery is now pending ABS Type
Approval for undersea systems. Absorbent
Glass Mat (AGM) lead-acid batteries add vibration
and shock resistance and continue to work even if
the battery is inverted. The polyethylene
outer case, in its signature international orange
color, is made with new tooling and looking top
notch. Applications for SeaBatteries include
offshore oil industry, seafloor research
instruments, and underwater
cinematography.

12 LED On-Hull
SeaLite®
|
|
 "DeepSea's new LED
On-Hull SeaLite® blazes new trails in underwater
boat lights." 12 LED On-Hull
SeaLite®, DeepSea's new low profile, high output
underwater boat light was unveiled at the 2009
Miami International Boat Show to an overwhelming
response. The 12 LED On-Hull SeaLite® was
designed in response to customer requests for a
light that requires only a small cable hole
through the hull, without any compromise to
brilliance or reliability. Visitors to
DeepSea's booth shielded their eyes from the
tremendous direct light coming from the 12 High
Brightness LEDs, and were shown demonstrations of
the exclusive strobe and dimming features.
Additional spec sheets had to be brought in twice
during the five day boat show to keep up with
interest. An adaptation of the LED On-Hull
SeaLite, the DockLite, is planned for docks,
piers, and moored house boats..

Thru-Hull SeaCam®
|

"MV Spirit of Kona , a 70 foot double deck
power catamaran with seating capacity of 150
persons, is Kona's only boat designed for viewing
of marine life above and below the surface. It
features 360º topside viewing and 2 giant glass
bottom viewing wells." Why put a video camera
on the bottom of a glass bottom boat? To
provide a video disk to onboard guests of their
seagoing excursion, says Raymond LeMay of Blue Sea
Cruises Inc., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The
Thru-Hull SeaCam is a fixed focus, wide angle,
color camera, with a scratch resistant sapphire
port. It comes with 50' of video cable that
can be run to any display that accepts NTSC or PAL
video via RCA jacks. The camera has an
optional insulator sleeve for use in steel,
aluminum, or graphite boat hulls. Tie the
camera and an open microphone into a recording
deck to capture the sights and sounds of the
seagoing adventure, including the naturalist's
explanations and the sounds of delighted
passengers! More on Ray's glass bottom boat
adventures next issue. In the meantime, take
a look at his website For night cruises,
Ray uses DeepSea's MultiSeaLites to light up the
reef.
